Hanging Patio Lights- Easy DIY
I've always wanted to hang patio lights in my backyard but never did because I couldn't figure out how! I didn't have a fancy pergola or fence posts to hang them on!
So when a hardware company reached out to me to do my first paid gig, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Full disclosure, I got sponsored my materials (aka, I didn't pay for the building materials) but I am not being paid to write this blog post. When I showed you guys in my stories on @thekwendyhome I had a lot of people ask me questions so I figured I'd do a quick post on it.
This such an easy project to execute but you will need some muscles as there is some heavy lifting. (Pretend you're doing deadlifts and call it a workout.) I didn't use a single power tool. If I can do this, you can too. Trust me.
Materials
2 22" planters
4 bags of Quikrete Quick Setting Cement
2 4X4 pressure treated posts at 8 foot tall
4 bags of potting soil
Patio lights
C Cup hooks
All purpose light clips
Zip ties
Flowers
All you have to do is:
Place your planter in desired spot
Place your post in the center of the pot
Pour in a bag of concrete mix with someone holding the post in place
Add water according to the concrete mix bag's instructions
Mix concrete until you get a really thick pudding but not soupy consistency. It's gonna look a little clumpy but you want the post to sit in it and not budge. You don't even have to smooth it out because the soil will cover it.
Pour in the second bag, mix with water
Let it set. You can tape a grid around your post to keep it in place
Let dry
Repeat instructions for second post or as many as needed to complete your space
After you have all your posts in place and you've let them dry you will now:
Place soil in planter
Plant flowers
Screw in C cup hooks in post
Hang patio lights to C cup hook and zip tie to secure
Place your light clip on the gutter
Hang patio lights to light clip and zip tie to secure
Plug in your patio lights and enjoy!
I'm so ready to enjoy my summer nights out here now! If you have any questions, feel free to leave them below.
And as always, thanks for reading,
