Kitchen Mood Board

Let's talk kitchen! I shared our dining room mood board last week and now I'm so excited to share our vision for our kitchen here.

It is not an understatement to say that we bought this house because of the space below! When we walked in, we knew that we wanted to move the kitchen to this space that was being used as a huge eat in kitchen.

The real estate listing actually called this spot the "solarium" and if you've been following us along for awhile, we are no strangers to solariums and sun rooms. (The last photo above is our old sunroom in thekwendyhome 2.0)

This "solarium" had a pitch in the ceiling and the space was 18 feet by 8 feet wide which was very generous. I saw the potential in turning this spot into the new kitchen!

The old kitchen was small for a house this size and knowing that we entertained so often, it made sense for us to expand it and make this the star of our home.

With that in mind, I set out to dream up the mood board below!

I am so so so excited about this space! Can you imagine the Velux skylights bringing in the light and the beams highlighting the pitch of the roof line?! I think it's going to look amazing!

When we were looking in to kitchen cabinets we wanted a custom look without paying the high prices so we opted to purchase IKEA base cabinetry and we're using Nieu Cabinet Doors for a custom look. I was so surprised at how affordable it was to get a custom colour! (It's an extra $275 to pick your own which is well worth it to me!)

As for counters, we wanted the look of marble but wanted to make sure it was easy to upkeep and was stain plus heat resistant. We went with quartz in our last two houses and loved how beautiful and low maintenance they were. That's why we decided to go with HanStone's Calacatta Extra! It's a beautiful bright white that has warm and natural veining that will go perfectly with our floors and cabinet colours.

(TIP: Make sure to bring a sample of your cabinet doors, paint chip, flooring and backsplash if you have that available. This will make it much easier to pick out your counter tops which is often the last thing that you order.)

The big ticket items have all been ordered, I'm still humming and hawing about hardware and sconces at this point. Oh! And backsplash. I don't have those decisions set in stone. (See what I did there hehe 😜)

But boy am I looking forward to the transformation of this space and can't wait share more!

Thanks for reading,

Love,

W
