Our First Laundry Room! - Mood Board

We have never had an actual laundry room before so I am probably more excited about designing this than normal.

In our last house, we had a laundry closet in the basement that was over run with random house hold junk. In the townhouse before that, our laundry room was in the basement hallway. When you walked downstairs to go to the living space, you would be greeted with our hanging undergarments and what not LOL. Don't get me wrong, I'm super glad we had a place to clean our clothes.

But man does it feel good to have a designated space for the laundry and have it on the main floor too (another first for us!) So let me show you what we have planned.

Welcome to our future laundry room:

As for the sink situation, I was searching at all the usual places like Home Depot, Lowes, Rona, Costco, Wayfair and the like. And I've come to a conclusion that decent looking laundry sinks are not very pretty. YET they are pretty darn expensive starting at $400 a pop in store

So, I decided to check out what IKEA had to offer and found this ceramic apron sink for $299. And this tap that for $139. So far that would $39 more than the basic sink from Home Depot as seen below. Nothing wrong with that sink by the way. I just didn't want to pay $572 for it without the choice of customization on the faucet and the doors (this set comes with both.)

I would rather have some say on the cabinetry, customize my door handles and pick out my own faucet that fits with the mood board I have. And most apron sinks that I found in this price range was stainless steel and I wanted a ceramic one if possible.

Now that we found the sink, we just have to figure out which cabinetry style and colour to go with. There are four that work in our space as seen below.

TIP: Always bring your floor tiles and paint chips with you when shopping. You'll need it to see if the pieces you already bought will fit in with the rest of your space. For me, I had the tiles, appliances and the light and I'm introducing the cabinetry.

You can scroll through to see the different options that we are considering, all from IKEA.

Option 1: Axstad style in white- $119/lin.ft

Option 2: Bodarp style in matte green- $115/ lin.ft

Option 3: Axstad style in dark gray- $119/ lin.ft

Option 4: Grimslov style in gray stain- $129/ lin.ft

What do think we should get? This will be for the sink cabinet and for the upper cabinets above the washer and dryer.

I'm excited to have some space for closed storage as this will also double as our mud room as well. Our laundry room is actually connected to our garage and has a side door as well. We are going to replace the existing side door to the outside with a windowed one to bring in the light. I think it'll make all the difference and I can't wait to see it! Except I will have to wait, because the doors don't come in until November at the earliest. But hey, that's something we can look forward to.

In the meantime, I hope you like our mood board and can see where we're headed. I hope it looks as good as it does in my head when all is said and done!

Thanks for reading!

Love,

W
