Instagram Engagement- Act 1

Let's talk Instagram engagement and growth.

My friend Megan at The Blush Home shared some of her tips for Instagram growth in her blog. I'm going to throw in my two cents here on Facebook since I don't have a blog.

Generally I don't try to focus too much on my numbers but I can't say I don't get a kick at tracking trends and seeing what performs well on my platform. So here are some observations that I have made recently.

First up, let's talk aesthetics. It seems like IG audience likes to see wider shots, brightly lit pictures and a cohesive story and colour pallet on your feed. I don't think we need to conform to a style that people like in order to gain their attention or to capture their hearts. However, having a cohesive feed is pleasing to the eye and I think I've learned that having one editorial style does better as a whole.

Think of your own Instagram scrolling as an example. If you see a picture you like, you'll want to see more of the same kind of vibe and style. Find a style you like and stick with it. To be honest, I'm still working on that but if you noticed recently, I worked with a photographer (shout out to Janet Kwan!) and she is super talented and edited all my photos for me.

So now my feed is cohesive and I definitely find it way more pleasing and enjoyable to look at. I think it has made a difference in attracting an audience and getting them to want to click on my photo to come see the rest of my feed!

But you don't need to hire or collaborate with a photographer in order to do that. There are apps and presets available to us less talented photographers and editors now a days.

I know a few of my friends here have made their own presets and even sell it to others. You can also download free apps like The Color Story or make your own via apps like SnapSeed!

Anyway, I hope this post reaches some of you and that I'm not talking into a void. I may write a follow up post on a different aspect of Instagram engagement and growth because there are a lot of aspects to it!
