How to Make Spooky Apple Cider
Get in, witches. We’re making some ghoulish drinks. Apple cider or apple juice anyone? I promise I didn’t poison it. 🍎 💀
I made home made apple cider for the first time and it’s so dang good!!!
Equipment
Cutting board
Knife
Pot
Metal strainer
Cheese cloth
Pumpkin silicone ice cube tray (optional)
Dispenser (optional)
Ingredients
15 Apples - I used honey crisps
3/4 cup of sugar
1 tbsp of all spice
1 tbsp of cinnamon
Water to cover apples by 2 inches
Step 1
Wash and quarter 10 apples.
STEP 2
Place quartered apples in pot and fill it with water until it covers apples by 2 inches. Pour in 3/4 cup of sugar, 1 tsbp of all spice and 1 tsbp of cinnamon.
STEP 3
Boil for an hour and simmer for two hours. Set aside apples to cool and then refrigerate in a container.
Step 4
Strain the apples with a fine metal strainer over a container to collect the juice. Strain the juice through cheese cloth twice to remove small apple excess.
TIP
Make sure to press the cooked apples and the remains of cheesecloth to get out every last bit of juice!
STEP 5
Store apple cider in jug or dispenser.
Option
Enjoy a cold apple cider with pumpkin shaped ice or add apple slices for more color!
STEP 7
Shape your apple by cutting off excess apple and carve out the eyes, nose and mouths to your desire.
Step 6
Peel remaining apples for shrunken apple heads.
Enjoy your apple cider hot or cold and store the leftover apple cider in a tightly covered pitcher or jar in the refrigerator for up to one week! If you'd like to keep it longer, you can either can the cider or freeze it. You can also use the excess apple for apple sauce!
How did your cider and shrunken heads turn out? I’d love to see your creations and tag me @thekwendyhome on any social media platforms so I can see what you are enjoying!
