The Coziest Baby Shower Theme:

“We Can Bearly Wait”

The Theme

I threw a baby shower for my sister and kept the theme a surprise. I ordered the food and decor a month in advance but my package went missing! So with 48 hours to spare, we whipped together this adorable baby shower and theme was “We can bearly wait.” Her only request was to have some activities or games for family and friends to play. Here’s how it went down and we were down to the wire planning and setting this up. But I think it turned out even better than I had planned!

The Arch: It’s ‘bearly’ standing?

This arch came together bear-utifully. We reused the front door arch that I used for my vestibule in the Spring. You can read all about how we built the structure here.

I used blue and white faux flowers to fill in the baskets and used a couple garlands to hide the chicken wire arch form that was created. I managed to get a HUGE (and I mean HUGE) teddy bear from a friend. It turned out SO well! Lastly, I ordered some teddy bears for a game I had planned and tucked them into the arch until we played the game. But I bet you’re asking, “how they heck is it standing up like that?

Well there’s a few things keeping this thing up. The first is my trusty C-stand. If you’re unfamiliar with what that is, I linked it for you since it’s a bit hard to explain. It’s a heavy duty stand used for production and photography, but at thekwendyhome I maximize it’s use with stuff like this! It’s holding up the arch on the right side and we hid it behind the giant teddy bear. If you do use one of these I highly recommend getting sandbags as well. The stand itself it pretty heavy already but having them is much safer.

On the OTHER side, the baskets are all attached with zip-ties to the chicken wire I got at my local hardware store. We ended up using a light-stand to prop it up and weighed the bottom with sand bags again.

This became the Photo Booth area for my sister and brother in law to take pictures with friends and family.

I also had props and signs for guests to hold up in front of this adorable back drop.

The Patch Bar: DIY Iron On Onesies

GUYS. If you want an activity station this is IT. It did so well at the shower and our guests loved it, plus the mom to be can take home the entire thing as a gift at the end! Let me walk you through how I set it up.

If you look closely the small rack that I used is actually for pets. 😂 We got away with it because of the theme, but with some decor no one can really tell. I thought this one was the perfect size and I liked the basket at the bottom so I could layer some decor pieces and crafting materials!

I ordered these small baby clothe hangers 🥹 along with onesies and bibs. I went for white, so the patches could shine.

TIP: Make sure to prewash the onesies and bibs so that shrinking won’t be an issue after the patches get ironed on.

I used cute little bear and letter patches to match the theme! And this is why this craft is so great because you can literally use any patches you like to match your baby shower theme! After that, all you need is an iron and an ironing board. There is no mess and it was easy for guests to understand without you having to monitor the station.

The Food Area:

As you can tell my nephews name will be, “Jasper!” how cute! I didn’t do too much for the food set-up. It was just a couple of pastries from a local patisserie. I actually had to pivot these decorations from my original plan, as you might be able to tell from the shift to green over blue. My original decor order didn’t come in time. I think it still turned out well!
I did order the customized cookies ahead of time so they were still on theme and very cute. And as you can see, I was able to grab some bear balloons too to fit the theme!

The drink station also came together quite nicely! I used the rest of this willow tree back drop…

(OK side story. I got this from Party City and was hesitant on using it at first because my UNCLE said it looked like seaweed… I ended up opening it and it was ONE LONG 100ft ribbon 🤦🏻‍♀️. I crashed out a bit but ended up splitting in two just for some extra texture.)

But guess what, my sister liked it and that’s all that matters. I also ended up hanging a garland in front of the drink station later. Some blue hydrangeas and pretty periwinkle plates I owned tied it in with the decor.

As a fun twist I also ordered (I know) some cookies and wrapped them in their own napkin diapers! HAHA I thought this was so funny and just a neat little touch. Watch this for a tutorial.

The Games

Game 1: Hungry Hungry Baby

The first game we played was HILARIOUS. While it didn’t tie into the theme, its a classic that gets everyone laughing. We set up a white plastic table cloth and cut some holes for our heads and hands to pop through. Then we attached some extra baby onesies to make it look like we had some VERY hungry babies.

You play by having pairs go up and participate. One will be the baby head, eating the baby food. The other will be the arms, feeding their teammate. Start the clock and race to be the first and cleanest baby to finish their food! Fair warning this gets quite messy! If you can play outside, I would. Or do what I did and have a plastic tablecloth for their legs as well as for the backdrop.

I also recommend getting jar baby food (the more exotic flavour the better haha) and little baby spoons to make it extra challenging!

Game 2: Diaper Time Trial

This is as simple as it gets. Get some stuffed animals (we used bears to stay on theme) lay them out with diapers and get your guests to race each other in putting them on the stuffies! This brings out everyones competitive spirit and it’s great because you can do multiple rounds and even make a little tournament out of it. I also found it fun when there was a mix of experience levels competing!

I also had prizes for all the games so people were motivated to win!
